Cola nitida is atree growing in West Africa, where it has been used by indigenous people forcenturies for its stimulating effects. Whole fruits are used, which are referred to ascola nuts. These fruits can also be ground into powder and taken in the form of a drink. Probably the most famous example of a drink of which Cola nitida was a part is Coca Cola. Its name is derived precisely from this plant. Today, however, it has been replaced by ordinary caffeine and this drink does not contains Cola nitida anymore.

 

HISTORY

The cola tree has been used for centuries by African tribes, who highly valued its stimulating effects. In addition, it also helped them to stave off hunger and was an ideal companion for long hunts and expeditions. It even served as a widely used currency. Muslims even consider this plant sacred and use it instead of alcohol at social events.

By the time Cola nitida was excluded from the Coca Cola drink, it was almost forgotten. Only in recent years, thanks to the spread of healthy food products and also healthy stimulating drinks, products of this plant are beginning to appear again.

CHEMISTRY

The main active ingredient of Cola nitida is, of course, the stimulant caffeine, which is contained here in 2-4%. Which is up to 3 times higher content than in the same amount of coffee beans. It also contains the substance theobromine, which is not only shown to have stimulating effects, but also promotes a good mood and relieves stress. Cola nitida also contains substances harmonizing the whole organism – a number of proteins, tannins and vitamins B and C.

 

EFFECTS

Thanks to its high content of energizing substances act Cola nitida primarily as an effective stimulant. It reduces fatigue, improves concentration and supports vitality. Caffeine in combination with theobromine and other compounds causes good mood and well-being. It is, therefore, a suitable companion for students and managers who need to kick in not only physically but also mentally. 

The plant can also serve as an aphrodisiac. Thanks to its content, theobromine also has a positive effect on the respiratory system it clears the airways and relieves asthma. It also helps to harmonize the functions of the stomach and intestines and quenches hunger.

The effects start almost immediately and subside after approx. 4 hours.

The recommended dose of Cola powder is 1-2 teaspoons mixed in any liquid or food. We recommend adding to warm milk and seasoning with honey or other spices. It can also be added to various porridges, smoothies, yogurts and other snacks.

A combination with Cacao Powder, Maca Peruvian or Ashwagandha is suitable.
